Ministry of Interior has announced the completion of the draft electronic passport for citizens, which will begin operating by the end of next March, and applies to all citizens, so that the replacement of expired passports with electronic passports will be on the dates of renewal through the state departments of Nationality.

He said that the electronic passport will be granted to all UAE nationals, without exception, and that when start the application and run the project, new e-passport will be given to the holders of ordinary passports «current» at the end of the validity period, so as to replace their expired passports with e-passports on dates of renewal through Nationality departments in the country.

Major General Al-Neyadi, explained that the most important objectives of the project taking into account that e-passport includes the newest technologies and security features, which are compatible with international standards in this regard, where the added features of high security make the process of tampering with and falsifying passport virtually impossible, and allow the specialists examine the passport Book and direct diagnosis of any attempts to tamper with or falsify the content of the passport book.

He added: the project's objectives also apply the latest printing technology, which enhances the clarity of data text and barometric printed on the data page of the passport holder, as well as an electronic chip with a storage capacity large allows storage of all text data from the barometric for the purposes of audit and complete the procedures outlets border of the State and other States dealing with those types of passports, quickly and securely, it is worth mentioning that the presence of the chip will provide additional services in the future to holders of passports, including E-Gates services and others.

In response to a question about fees to be imposed when issuing the e-passport, Al-Neyadi said: the collection of fees for issuance of a normal passport (current), will be the collection of fees for issuance at the start of the application of e-passport, which will stop the issuance of normal passports and are issued Electronics passports instead, to continue to work regular passports for the duration of the current validity which is five years from the date of issuance, the issuance of e-passport will not affect the validity of the current passports, as long as it is valid.

And about how to deal with the passport globally, Al-Neyadi pointed out that: despite the high security features for e-passport, it is also carries all the advantages of regular passport, in addition to the electronic chip to store the text data and barometric.

Al-Neyadi confirmed that the project of issuance of electronic passport is the implementation of the directives of HH Lt.
