Sharjah Residency Nabbed 36 Garbage Scavengers in Cooperation with “Bee’ah”

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs of Sharjah, in co-operation with Bee’ah, has been cracking down on waste scavengers in the Emirate, the Campaign reflecting the activation of the partnership that was signed recently between the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and Sharjah Environment Company, The campaign resulted in the seizure of 36 people from garbage scavengers and cartons collectors from Asian and African nationalities in different parts of the Emirate of Sharjah.


The anti-Scavenging task force’s first raid on 20 March until today, resulted in 70 arrested in violation of the law of entry and residence of foreigners from garbage and cardboard boxes collectors, to reach the total number of intercepted since the beginning of the campaign and so far to 129 people from the Asian-African nationalities.


Brigadier General Dr Abdullah Ali Saeed Bin Sahoo, director general Department of Residency and Foreign Affairs of Sharjah, said: a dedicated anti-scavenging task force has been set up to patrol collection areas in the Emirate to investigate individuals going through municipal containers and to deal with these illegal immigrants in accordance with UAE law, the arrest of 36 people from garbage and cardboard boxes collectors during a single campaign in collaboration with the Sharjah Environment company (Bee’ah) is the translation of successful partnerships, and underlines the strategic vision of the Ministry of Interior and sector of nationality, residence and ports to contribute to the eradication of the phenomenon of illegal residence and violators of the law of entry and residence of foreigners by using the strategic partners, stressing the continuity of the efforts of the campaign to face the phenomenon of garbage and cardboard boxes collectors.
