“Patients Friends” Committee Opens " Protect Your Eyesight" Campaign

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of “Friends of Patients” Committee in Sharjah , accompanied by Brigadier Dr Abdullah Ali Bin Sahoo, Director General of Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah, a number of officers, directors of departments and heads of departments, attended by Mohammed Abdullah Al Jowder executive director of the Friends Committee of patients in Sharjah, opened yesterday morning at the headquarters of the Department a health campaign: "Protect Your Sight from Blindness" by early detection of diabetic retinopathy, through photography screening campaign which will continue for two days.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi said: The campaign comes in the framework of cooperation with our strategic partners from government institutions and semi-governmental organizations in the Emirate of Sharjah, especially Sharjah Residency, in order to conduct the examination for employees and customers , and contribute significantly to the promotion of awareness of the danger of this disease, and to highlight the importance of its early detection, and the definition of how to deal with it, and the scanning of the eye photography is an appropriate means for the detection of diabetic retinopathy for those who do not have any symptoms.

He added that scientific studies confirm that the process of early detection will prevent 90 % of people with blindness , which can be caused by diabetes, in case they examined at an early stage of the disease .

For his part, Abdullah Bin Sahoo said: The campaign comes as part of the administration's desire to promote community participation, and dissemination of health education among employees and customers, within the strategy of the Ministry of Interior and its role in serving the local community.
